IGNITION -INTRODUCTION
Each engine has two ignition systems that operate independently. They supply electrical sparks in the combustion chamber to start combustion or make sure combustion continues. The ignition system has automatic and manual operation modes on the ground and in flight. Abbreviations and Acronyms * AIMS -airplane information management system
* ACIPS -airfoil and cowl ice protection system
* EDIU -engine data interface unit
* EEC -electronic engine control
* ELMS -electrical load management system
* ERU -engine relay unit
* FSEU -flap slat electronics unit
* OPAS -overhead panel ARINC 629 system

IGNITION -GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The ignition system for each engine contains these components: * Ignition exciter (2)
* Exciter-to-igniter plug cable (2)
These components control the operation of the ignition system: * Start/ignition selector
* Fuel control switch
* Airfoil and cowl ice protection system (ACIPS)
* Flap slat electronics unit (FSEU).
The ignition system gets 115v ac power from the electrical load management system (ELMS). The fuel control switch must be in the RUN position to let ELMS supply ignition power to the engine relay unit (ERU).
